#104: Wintery Weapons & Whiskery Work

Hello dear readers!

In this issue I’ll be sharing some art from my various projects this month, which involve fae creatures, wintery weapons and a multitude of mice adventurers. Let’s have a look!

Rolling Coast Mausritter Campaign Setting: Making Mouse Minis!

I’m excited to announce that I’ve been commissioned to design a collection of paper miniatures for the Rolling Coast, a Mausritter campaign setting developed by ManaDawn and Ten Acre Games.

They recently reached their first stretch goal on Backerkit, which added three new artists to the project – one of them is me! Below is a sneaky peek at two of the designs I have done so far:

Composite image of two traditionally illustrated and digitally coloured mouse characters. On the left a magically-enthralled brown mouse wielding a big stick. On the right, an alchemist mouse wearing a thimble gas mask and a bandolier of potions.

Pictured above: an enthralled mouse, whose mind is being controlled by a magpie sorceress, and an alchemist mouse who mixes potions in an abandoned ambulance.

I was contacted by Hugh, of Ten Acre Games, who I’ve had the pleasure of working for in the past on other commissions (include the TAG logo). If you’re reading this: thanks again Hugh!
The launch of the project celebrates Mausritter Month 2025. To my shame I have yet to actually play Mausritter myself, but I love drawing little mice characters, so I couldn’t say no!

November’s Art Assets on Patreon: Forest Fae Creatures!

Earlier this week I published the latest monthly art asset pack to my Patreon. The result of the last theme poll was ‘More Creatures’. As I have been taking a lot of walks in the forest recently, I felt these should be fae-inspired. The result is a collection of fairies, gnomes, goblins and – my personal favourite – spud pixies!
As always, the asset pack is accompanied by a larger character vignette: in this case, a mysterious chimera who guards the grove.

Pictured above: some of the forest fae creatures included in the pack, as well as the large character vignette available to $1 tier patrons.

But wait, there’s more! Because December is probably going to be very busy for me, I have already started work on next month’s asset pack as well. Below is a sneak peek at a collection I am already calling “Winterforge Weapons” – the runner-up result in the poll was ‘More Weapons’.

Black and white photo of some traditionally hand-drawn weapon illustrations, all of which are winter or yuletide themed.

Pictured above: some of the winter/yuletide-inspired fantasy weapons, including the belt of Oakstrength, the helm of the frost giant, the hearth hammer and the snow bomb.

Mystery Quest: More Mice & Questionable Fan-Art!

The Ennie Award winning TTRPG actual play show Mystery Quest recently launched a dedicated Discord server. As one of their Patrons I had the privilege of joining it early before it potentially goes public. To celebrate, I decided to finally get round to drawing fan-art for one of my favourite MQ campaigns: Mausritter’s Honey in the Rafters. Which, of course, meant drawing more cute mice adventurers! Here they are now…

Pictured above: the brave mice adventurers from Mystery Quest’s take on Honey in the Rafters. From left to right: Herb the elderly cage-dweller mage, Hazel Eyebright the mischievous scavenger, Peeps Piddleton the young princeling of Stumptown, and Eduardo the boastful trap-thief.

The inspiration kept flowing, however, so I soon after found my spirit moved to produce another piece of fan-art. This time for a specific scene from their Mork Borg Goblin Grinder campaign. I will provide absolutely no context for this bizarre piece, as I hope that will encourage you to give the show a listen and find out what any of this means for yourselves!

Traditionally hand-drawn and digitally coloured fan-art for Mystery Quest's Goblin Grinder. A saint-like rat-faced woman in a floral dress, watched over by two demonic ducks, cradles a wounded monkey in her arms. Below her a jester and a noble look in adoration and disgust, respectively.

Pictured above: “Our Lady Bungus of the Wounded Monkey”, also featuring two demon ducks, the infamous Jingly John and Duke Belsom the third.

In Other News: Writing Project Continues, Submitted to Peer Review!

Amid all this drawing I have still kept writing my whimsical fantasy/sword & sorcery story, featuring Mirona the minotaur (see previous issue of this newsletter for character art).
I’m still really enjoying it and have even forwarded the fist few chapters to some interested friends to have a read through and provide feedback.
I’ve been toying with the idea of making an art video in which I draw Mirona at rest, writing her journal, with a section of the story read in voice-over by a voice actor.

Media Spotlight!

That’s all for this week!

As always, thank you so much for reading.

One last reminder that if you feel like supporting my work, you can buy something from my website or itchio, join my Patreon as a paying member, or commission me.

If none of the above are doable for you, please consider spreading the word about my work to your friends!
